In November 1989 demonstrations on ecological difficulties ended up staged in Sofia and these quickly broadened into a standard marketing campaign for political reform. The Communists reacted by deposing Zhivkov and changing him by Petar Mladenov, but this received them only a short respite.Over the nineteen sixties the inhabitants on the republic
